West Up. We have the the newest mixtape from San Francisco rapper Roach Gigz, titled Roachy Balboa III. The mixtape has a lot to live up to as the third installment of the Roachy Balboa mixtape series, as the first two tapes were largely popular and received well by the FADER and Pitchfork. The immense amount of preparation from Roach for the mixtape (he put out four videos from RBIII before it’s release) built up a huge anticipation for it throughout the hip-hop community.
The long list of guest features doesn’t hurt, either. “I just kept it to people I actually fuck with personally, like I usually do” Roach says of the guests on Roachy Balboa III, including “of course the Goomba Gang, my bro Iamsu!, Clyde Carson, Kool John, my friend Kreayshawn, and my singing bro 1.O.A.K.” Remedy, Pac B, and Marlow also make appearances on the tape.
Out of the mixtape’s seventeen songs, Roach lists some standout tracks being “Don’t Forget The Gigz”, “How I Feel”, and the single “It’s Lit” featuring Iamsu!, but insists that he cannot pick a favorite. Roach believes that he’s grown since his last release of the Roachy Balboa series, and promises that on his new mixtape he doesn’t worry himself with making sure to touch on every subject, but just rapping about what comes naturally. The variety of different producers that assist on the mixtape, including Nima Fadavi, DJ Two Stacks, Nick Catchdubs, P-Lo, C-Loz, and Trev Case make each track on the release more diverse than his previous two Roachy Balboas. “I think musically, this is one of my best releases” Roach says of the new tape. “I think the whole project separates me from the pack, honestly. I might rap about some of the same shit everybody enjoys…I just do it cooler.”
