West Up. We’re excited to share a brand new interview with y’all today. We caught up with a rising young artist out of Sacramento, California by the name of Chucc 1. Music is nothing new to Chucc 1, who grew up testing his skills on a variety of musical endeavors. It’s helped make him a multi-faceted artist, one willing and able to work several hustles at once to help propel his career.
He recently released his latest project “Rare Breed” which you can download here. He’s the CEO of his own Urners Ent and is pushing the line for his city, his passion and his roots. Check our interview out below.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Good to catch up with you. Let’s start off with how long have you been rapping?
Chucc 1: Officially 2007. That’s when I established Urners Ent.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Oh okay. What got you interested in rapping?
Chucc 1: Before rapping I played the trumpet since 11. Played in school bands, church, concert performances etc. So that’s basically where my musical roots come from.
WestCoastRydaz.com: That’s a lot of diversity! Who were some of your musical influences?
Chucc 1: Artists from Bob Marley to Ice Cube. C-Bo to Mac Dre. Alot of it comes from rap & R&B. R&B would be my second.
WestCoastRydaz.com: We’ve heard that you get some good radio support, tell us more about that. What DJs and stations have supported your career?
Chucc 1: My initial debut on radio was in 2010 with Attraction ft Jimme Reign. Aired on 103.5fm KBMB (at the time). Which later aired on 106.1 FM KMEL in the Bay Area with Big Von. Then followed up in 2012 with my previous single “She Want It” which gained a lot of attention. Nationally to over seas. Stations such as KMEL, KDVS (UC Davis Univ), KRFH (HSUniv), KFRS (CSU Fresno), KUUU (SLC Utah) NIU FM (New Zealand), WVUV (Samoa), 93KHJ (Samoa), 88.6 FM (Tonga) & others. Just fortunate these stations picked up my record & gave a spin.
WestCoastRydaz.com: You talked about your diverse influences earlier. What other talents do you bring to the table?
Chucc 1: I also dabble in R&B. I’ve gotten some positive feedback about it. So I’m looking to improve my vocals.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Okay, great. Speaking of other talents, we know you directed and edited some of your videos. Are directing and editing music videos something else you see yourself doing on a normal basis?
Chucc 1: Definitely!
WestCoastRydaz.com: Okay. How do you feel about the musical scene in your region?
Chucc 1: It could use a boost. But it’ll take the city “music scene” to come together. I.e DJs, artists, promoters, radio stations etc. Sacramento has been struggling to break through. It can happen! We’ve just gotta work on it.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Definitely. Describe the influence your culture and background has had on your music and career.
Chucc 1: It’s helped me identify who I am. The way we conduct ceremonies, perform our cultural rituals & carrying our traditions into the future. It’s taught me to an individual. Stand for morals, principals, respect, family & much more.
WestCoastRydaz.com: You have a lot of support overseas and in the south pacific, how do you feel representing that through your music?
Chucc 1: Empowered! To receive the support from music professionals. Let alone your people (Polynesians) who are in the industry is in encouraging. I not only feel the obligation to set the standard but to pave a way for all the young Polynesians looking to come into the game. I basically see it as a responsibility to keep pushing.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Tell us about your newest mixtape. Why the name Rare Breed?
Chucc 1: Well you have tons of artist representing their city, ethnicity and so forth. The name came to “Rare Breed” came to mind simply cause we are of a rare breed. Not only cause of nationality! But I see my comrades/circle as a “Rare Breed”. So that’s where it came from.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Who are some of the features?
Chucc 1: Features Sabina, T Nutty, Mr.Blap, Big Omeeze and others. But it’s more of my creativity & writing I’ve been showcasing in this project.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Where can people learn more about you and your music?
WestCoastRydaz.com: What should people be looking forward to from you in the future?
Chucc 1: Got new music coming prod by Dennis Blaze of 93.5 FM KDAY. New single LIKE THAT prod by DJ Handsome Hands of KUUU 92.5 FM (SLC Utah). Visuals & a few other things in the works. Keep an eye out for the kid. I’m on my way!
WestCoastRydaz.com: Thank you for catching up with us and we look forward to more in the future!
