West Up. We recently caught up with a rising star coming out of a city that many of you should be familiar with – Compton. With such a rich hip-hop history the CPT is widely recognized as a breeding ground for future rap stars and we sat down with one hoping to be next in line: Compton World.
Representing for his city and Get The Doe Ent, Compton World caught up with us to talk about his career, his new project “The Function” with DJ Carisma and DJ Mustard, which is set for a February 19th release and much more. You can read the interview below and check out “The Function” by clicking here.
WestCoastRydaz.com: How long have you been rapping?
Compton World: I’ve been rapping since the age of 14, but actually started taking it serious for about five years now.
WestCoastRydaz.com: What got you into rapping?
Compton World: I got into rapping when I first heard Snoop Dogg and Tha EastSidaz “G’d Up” record (-WCR note: listen here). I copped that single and listened to it over and over again until I could recite the lyrics word for word. It was a a feeling that I got from that record that made it so West coast & real life at the time when and where I was growing up at. I could actually ID with the record lyrics.
WestCoastRydaz.com: You come from a city with a long history of rappers, does that add pressure for you?
Compton World: It does add a lot of pressure to me because being from Compton where some of the most respected pioneers of gangsta rap originated from, the first thing people do is compare you to that great sound of music of the legends that they’re familiar with. It makes it harder for you to be respected for your own sound.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Okay, it looks like you’re embracing the pressure. Tell us Why you chose the name Compton World?
Compton World: I chose the name Compton World because I’m presenting the listeners with my lifestyle of being brought up in Compton, in my section, and how we do thangs. Basically a look in to my world.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Tell us about your new mixtape “The Function” – why that name?
Compton World: I choose the title “The Function” because that’s what I’m giving the listeners on my tape. All function music from how me and my team function on the regular. It was almost impossible to not make a function record when I have the function King himself DJ Mustard producing 80 percent of the tape. With the lyrics I provide & the beats to go with these beats these records will be spun at the clubs/parties/functions etc.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Sounds great. Who are some of the features?
Compton World: On this tape I have features from Slim400 which is a childhood friend of mines, YG400, Stacey Lee, Ken Malik and AD.
WestCoastRydaz.com: How did you link up with DJ Carisma and DJ Mustard?
Compton World: I linked up with DJ Mustard a while back in his beginning stages of producing. I met Mustard thru Slim400. I heard YG record “I’m Good” and was like “Damn! Who produced that beat?” Slim400 was like “Mustard did that!” So he hollered at Mustard & told him the situation & Mustard said “pull up.” So me and Slim400 pulled up at one of YG’s video shoots and that’s when I met Mustard and we started working not too long after that. Now with DJ Carisma I met her on numerous occasions from being at shows with YG and clubs with my team. I reached out to her with my tape & she was all for it and the end result was her co-hosting the tape with DJ Mustard.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Who are some of the producers on the project?
Compton World: There are only two producers on the tape, DJ Mustard and Streets&Trickey.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Your mixtape has been well anticipated, how excited are you about its release?
Compton World: I’m excited about the tape’s release because I’m bringing the listeners my creativity, my sound and inviting them to my Function! I’m excited to get the fans response from the tape.
WestCoastRydaz.com: What’s your favorite song on the project?
Compton World: My favorite song on the project has to be “2Nite” featuring Stacey Lee. It’s one of those records that puts you in a good spirit but still G’! type of mood.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Where can fans learn more about you and follow your movement?
Compton World: The fans could learn more about me and follow me on Instagram @ComptonWorld, on Twitter @ComptonWorld310, on YouTube.com/ComptonWorld, and on FaceBook or you could follow up on me and my team by typing in G.T.D. (Get The Doe).
WestCoastRydaz.com: Any shout outs or other things you want to share with your fans and followers?
Compton World: I wanna give a S/0 to my team (GTD), all the artists, engineers, producers, etc who have worked with me and made this project possible. Salute! Now let The Function begin!
