West Up. One of our main goals here at WestCoastRydaz.com is to help shine light on promising and hard working West Coast entertainment artists and companies through our promotional network. We recently had the opportunity to catch up with one of those companies and their leader, OG Big MaMa of Flatland Entertainment, who we’ve featured before. A vet in the game who has been putting in work since the 80s, she shared some insight into the company’s origins, roster and more, you can check it out below and be on the lookout for their new song “I Wanna Make You Cum.”
WestCoastRydaz.com: How long has your company been around?
Flatland Entertainment: More than 25 years.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Why did you choose the name Flatland Entertainment?
Flatland Entertainment: The simple answer is, in Watts there are no hills just “Flat Land”
WestCoastRydaz.com: That makes sense. What type of projects does the company focus on?
Flatland Entertainment: All genres of music. Right now we’re focused on Hip-Hop and R&B.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Great. What made you decide to start an entertainment company?
Flatland Entertainment: My cousin asked me to be the manager of their rap group so I started a label [called] Big MaMa Records and Productions [and it’s] now Flatland Entertainment LLC.
WestCoastRydaz.com: I see that Watts is represented heavily in the company, explain why it’s important to you?
Flatland Entertainment: That’s where I am from, went to 93rd elementary, Drew middle school, and Alan Leroy Locke High school. I played at Will Rodgers park now Ted Watkins. I Had family in all the projects, Jordan downs, Nickerson Gardens, PJ Watts, Haciendas.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Who are the artists on Flatland Entertainment?
Flatland Entertainment: The immediate family is Og Big MaMa ,Split P, Big Jess, DJ and producer Tazzmatic, P.O.W which is T.I.E last Prisoner, Timeing, B.O.X and OBZI. The extended family is Dutch Saint, NME, Mortisha, Battle Cat and Rhythm D, we all have a common goal putting out good music.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Why did you choose to add these artists to the company roster?
Flatland Entertainment: Everything we do is a team effort. With that said, every one takes on multiple roles. It’s not the typical artist company relationship. Most of us have had prior history. Flatland entertainment, the artist and producers involved is more of an organic thing, in that, it pretty much formed itself. Good people came aboard and here we are today.
WestCoastRydaz.com: What services do you offer for artists and people interested in working with you?
Flatland Entertainment: Artist development, consulting, promotion, marketing, Production, Recording, writing, notation, mic training, cd dvd duplication, videos, Headshots anything from A – Z to get a project done.
WestCoastRydaz.com: The CEO Marcia Robertson is also an artist, correct? How has being an artist yourself influenced the company?
Flatland Entertainment: There are good parts about it and not so god parts. But I just take the good with the bad and keep moving forward.
WestCoastRydaz.com: Tell us more about your experience in the music industry, what are some of your favorite memories?
Flatland Entertainment: Its hard to pinpoint one moment but I have had some memorable times through the years one is the last Jack the rapper.
